Kilkishen Notes for 5th April 2019

Vigil Mass

The regular Saturday evening vigil mass will be celebrated in St. Senan’s Church Kilkishen from Saturday April 6 until the end of September.


GAA Golf Classic

The annual O’Callaghan’s Mills GAA club golf classic takes place over the Easter week-end. This year’s winning team will receive season tickets for the 5 days of the Irish Open at Lahinch in July.

Sailing Club Easter Camp

Cullaun Sailing Club are holding their annual I.S.A. Junior Sailing Easter Camp from April 15 to 19 at Cullaun Lake.  The camp is open to children and teenagers aged 10-18 and runs from 10am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.  Applicants should have some sailing experience or achieved I.S.A. level 1 and should contact the club for further details.


Upcoming concert

On Saturday April 13, local man Brendan T Walsh joins forces with Gráinne Hunt for a concert at the Kilkishen Cultural Centre at 8.00pm. Brendan and Grainne studied music together at NUI Maynooth, and in early 2018 they joined forces after a decade to perform the opening concert of the 19th Shannonside Winter Music Festival. From this performance the concept for “Songs from Ireland” was born.  ‘Songs from Ireland’ is a new Irish contemporary folk project in which they perform a collection of traditional Irish ballads and folk songs in both English and Irish, with sensitively arranged classical guitar accompaniment by Brendan.  Admission is €15 and tickets can be booked by text to 086 8464509.

Community Games Athletics

Athletic training for the Community Games and the Great Limerick Run starts this Thursday evening in Kilkishen school field from 7.00 to 7.45pm.

The Kilkishen/O’Callaghan’s Mills area finals will be held Thursday 27th April and winners will go through to Clare Finals in early June.

Community Games competitions open to age 6 and over and includes long and short distance races and hurdles.

Handball Church Gate Collection

The annual Church gate collection for Kilkishen Handball Club takes place on the weekend of the 25th and 26th of February in O’Callaghan’s Mills and Kilkishen.  Collection before masses in Kilmurry, Sixmilebridge and Oatfield will take place on the weekend of March 4th and 5th.

Emergency Response Group

Defibrillator Refresher Training will be held in the Cultural Centre on next Monday 27th February and 6th March at 8pm each night. A date for training to commence in O’Callaghan’s Mills will be announced shortly. We have three Defibrillators available in the parish, outside Gleeson’s Shop, Kilkishen, outside Community Centre, O’Callaghan’s Mills and in Kilkishen National School during School hours. The unit in the GAA Clubhouse is not currently available due to renovations on the building. There are over 30 people trained up on the system and its expected to all those will be attending this coming course. For further information please contact Mike at 0862314685.

Text Alert

Kilkishen have now 120 members signed up to the East Clare Text Alert system, there is close to 500 members overall right through East Clare parishes from Kilkishen to Whitegate and its working efficiently.  A number of Alert messages have been sent out since December and already two suspected robbers have been apprehended in an East Clare Village as a result of someone alerting the Gardaí using the Text Alert system. Keep on the lookout and help protect yourself and your neighbours, anyone can still join up by contacting Mike at 086 2314685 or any committee member.

Annual Pub Quiz – Gallaghers

It’s the time of year again for Gallagher’s Bar popular Pub Quiz for charity.  It takes place on Friday, 24th February commencing at 9.30pm.  Your support as usual is very welcome as the proceeds go to Milford Hospice and R.N.L.I.

Community Games Swimming

Kilkishen/O’Callaghan’s Mills/ Oatfield Community Games had their first area swimming gala at Treacy’s West County Hotel, Ennis on Friday last.  Over 50 children competed and all children were awarded with medals for their achievements.  Great credit must go to Martina O’Hagan who co-ordinated and organised the event.  Appreciation is also due to Treacy’s West County Hotel for facilitating the event.
