Handball Success

The Kilkishen Handball club had a clean sweep of the Clare Handball Leagues in recent weeks. This is mostly due to the work that is being put in at underage level in both the Kilkishen and O’Callaghan’s Mills courts over a number of years. Players form Kilmurry which is only one mile for the Kilkishen court are also making a great contribution to this latest success.  The Division 1 competition was not run this year and our Division 2 team beat Newmarket in the final.  The team was: Brendan Hannon, John Peppard, Pat Donnellan, Gerry Cooney, Sean Murphy and Tiarnan Agnew.  Gary Neville was also a member of this panel before emigrating to Toronto.  Our Division 3 team beat Clarecastle in the final and the team was: Sean Murphy, Barry Heffernan, Trevor McInerney, Sean Cotter, Jamie Keane, Cillian Nugent, Jim Cleary and Greg Shanahan.  Our Division 4 team beat Newmarket in the final and the team was: Fergal Kennedy, Ciaran Agnew, Tim Custy, Cillian Custy, John McNamara, Donal Mullins, Aidan Moroney and Joe Hogan.

The players on all teams received their medals at a very enjoyable function in Jack Place Kilkishen on Saturday last.  Colin Crehan from Oatfield, in the O’Callaghan’s Mills parish, who is one of the more outstanding players from the club, was on hand to make the presentation to the players.
